Sorry this edition is out a little late. I was on vacation last week in the beautiful St. George, Utah area on my annual golf vacation.
What a beautiful place and the golf was outstanding. This is my 12th or 13th golf vacation with a group of guys that have done this for 31 years in a row. Its golf, sleep and eat.
There are 8 of us that go. The most amazing thing is that we all get along so well. However listening to us you would think we were all enemies.
The truth is we do not take ourselves very seriously and we know that it is all fun and games.
Another reason is we all have defined rolls. Let’s see Larry is the kitty-master who budgets out the trips and pays all the bills. We feed the kitty every day and he pays for all the stuff. Eric is the golf coordinator who sets up the tee times and the line-up. Hal is the historian, photographer and statistician. Ken is the cook, Buff is in charge of ice. Hud is director of transportation and he drives. Jay is safety director and navigator and he also drives when necessary. And me I am the official barbeque master and social director.
Everyone has a role and does his job well. This all works very well and I was thinking ion life we all have roles. Do we fulfill them?
One role we all have is to be healthy. Being healthy helps us and others. If one of my golf vacation buddies did not do his job we would have a gaping hole in our trip. If you do not fulfill your roles in life and one that everyone has is to be healthy, you leave a gaping hole that could affect yourself negatively and others.
Look at you roles in life. Being healthy, a father, a brother, an employee, and service club member, a congregation member, a friend, etc… and fulfill your rolls. Every day can then be like a golf vacation, full and fun!

There is a lot of health information going around. Most of the useful information is ignored as it seems everyone is looking for the “next best thing” or a shortcut.
With the passing of legendary teacher Coach John Wooden, I am reminded of a quote of his that is applicable to this situation.
He said, most people are looking for the next best thing even though they have not mastered the basics. The next best thing is no replacement for a solid foundation based on sound principles and proven therapies.
When it comes to health, the two most influential areas are exercise and nutrition. The basic of both are as follows:
Exercise, there are three components. Aerobic exercises for endurance, resistance exercises for strength and stretching and posture for flexibility and structure. Of the three stretching and posture is probable the most important as you can build strength and endurance into a flexible properly aligned body. Building strength and endurance in a tight or misaligned body will create a tighter and more misaligned body.
